Two Down....Six To Go!!!

John and Unnur left on Monday after a ten day stay here with us in the Bow Valley! We dropped them off at the airport at ca 10AM but then they got to experience the fun of delays in this great area of air transportation we have these days. As they were taxiing out to take-off there was a malfunction and a three and a half hr wait with that. They did finally make it to San Francisco where they plan to spend 4 days I think. It was great to have you guys over...thank you, please come again.

Is Leifur Eiriksson from Norway?

The debate of whether Leif Eriksson is Norwegian or Icelandic is interesting...to me anyway. Us Icelanders like to say that he was Icelandic but the Norwegians like to say he was from their homeland! So here is my question to the people of Norway!

If Erik, Leifurs father, was born in Iceland and then was sent on his way to Norway as an outlaw...you know, they don't want anything to do with him. Have his son there, in Norway, is his son then Icelandic or Norwegian?

Well, Erik was born in Norway, killed some people and did some bad thing along with that. Was made an outcast and fled to Iceland, had his son Leifur there (n.b. Leifur is born and bred in Iceland)! Does that make Leifur Norwegian??? I just don't see the point in that argument.

Oh well, I guess for some people (or nations for that matter) there is no such thing as common sense...

Who´s in da house?

Da Work Visa is in da house! Yes, finally the work visa has landed after, well, years in the making I guess. Some things just work like a well lubed machine and the Visa process isn´t one of them. But its great to finally have something to work with..literally!

Doddi has gone back to Iceland and I think he made it back safely...hasn't let me know anyway. His trip was pretty good, we wanted to go into the Bugaboos but the spring/summer arrived late up there so we hung around the Bow Valley and the Icefields Parkway. Got up Athabasca, Mt Louis, Ha Ling Peak and did multiple sport and trad routes. Doddi managed to red point a 5.10c on bolts so he increased his grade by one letter grade since last year.

Now I am in cleaning mode as we are preparing the arrival of, well, almost all of Iceland. John and Unnur are landing tomorrow and then the day after my parents along with my sister, her husband and two kids! So preparations are in full swing.
Mt Louis, our route is pretty much right in front of the camera

Time to sign in again

It´s been a while since I signed in. And things have happened...

Doddi has arrived from Iceland and we are enjoying some climbing 4-5 days a week. Mostly doing a mix of easy gear climbs to some bolted routes.

Erin has been getting her head together and lead two 5.10c last week and Doddi did one. Good job gang!

The weekend was extremal warm, 35ish°C, so we climbed in the shade but still got burned. Still, I got in a 5.11b in but that was about it. It rained today but Doddi and I still got out to enjoy Canada Day climbing The Original Route on Whitman's crag. 5.7 can be tricky when wet and on sometimes dodgy gear!!!

Here are some pics from the last few days...
