yes, got out and did 400 meters of easy ice today, or this morning actually. Left the house at 0930 and headed to Rogans gully for some sunny WI2 300m. The route is due south facing so I had to be fast up and down before the melt-out would ruin the route.
After Rogans I headed to Urs Hole which is also a WI2 but has more shade, didn't have to hurry so much there! Urs was way more fun as it is actually steep and offers more climbing although it is shorter. It is situated in an avalanche trap so although I knew there wasn't a threat from above my subconscious kept telling me that being in this terrain is not the best for a long time!!! There is so much old avalanche debris in the gully that it makes for amazing formations when topping out the route! I kept going a bit but common sense told me to get out of there...if you get crushed alone in there they will never find you!!!
Arrived back to the house before lunch to enjoy some good food and to find out that I could do a couple of hrs of work today. If I hadn't had to work today I would have gone to Sinatra falls to complete the ultimate hat-trick of WI2´s and a good 700m day of ice climbing!
Cascade trying to recover after collapsing 2-3 days ago. Rogans Gully is on the left hand side and Urs Hole is on the right hand side of Cascade but both routes cant be seen on this photo.
